MHSA WORKFORCE EDUCATION & TRAINING
SANTA CLARA
COUNTY
"Dedicated to the Health of the Whole Community"
A part of the Valley Health and Hospital System, the Santa Clara County Mental Health Department offers an in depth internship training program for students interested in or actively pursuing careers in mental health at both a graduate as well as an undergraduate level. Graduate level internships are available for students enrolled in MSW/MFT/PhD/PsyD programs. At times, we are able to offer MPH/MPA students positions. Most positions offer stipends in addition to an extensive training seminar program, individual and group supervision. Undergraduate level internships are limited. Please review this link for current internship and trainee position openings. Please review our website for additional information. Contact Charley Hodson by email initially regarding all internship opportunities. After the initial inquiry, informational interviews are arranged. Following these interviews, interviews to individual clinic sites are arranged. Although most graduate-level students begin in the fall of each year and follow the academic year, other time frames are possible depending upon the availability of a Clinical Supervisor. Cultural competency is an integral part of clinical competency and will be a significant focus of your training. We begin our recruitment and interview process in January of each year. We interview MFT Trainees in February and MSW Interns in March each year. You may contact us about one month ahead of time by email and sent a resumé as an attached document. If you have questions earlier, please feel free to send an email. We participate each year in the Bridging the Gap Event: Internship and Career Fair sponsored by the Career Center at SJSU. Many of our mental health contract agencies as well as many Bay Area mental health and social services agencies also take part in this event. This usually takes place in late January or early February from 10-2 in the Student Union Building on campus. CONTACT the SJSU Career Center website for information regarding this annual event: www.careercenter.sjsu.edu. The SJSU Career Center also has a Health and Human Service Career and Internship Fair in November of each year.
INTERNSHIP/TRAINEE PROGRAM ORIENTATION MEETINGS IN FEBRUARY: A couple of required orientation meetings will occur in February for MFT Trainees and in late February and very early March for MSW Interns.
