Training Seminar Program The Training Seminar Program provides over 100 hours of classroom training spanning 14 weeks each fall and spring semester. Most of the trainings take place on Thursday mornings. The trainings take place from 8:30am-12pm. Intern Group runs from 8:30am until 9:20am, followed by different clinical trainings from 9:30am until 12pm. In the fall there are a few additional trainings that take place on Fridays. We expect that all students attend these trainings. You may click on the links below to see the offerings for the Fall and Spring Training Seminar Programs for the current academic year. In general, the trainings are divided into three content areas. The first area is designed to help a student "get up and running" in our department. These trainings explore intake evaluation and assessment, diagnostic formulation with DSM IV, treatment planning and risk assessment as well as written documentation. The second area is in other areas of clinical development such as psychopharmacology, specific theoretical orientations and the like. The third content area is that of developing cultural competence as a part of clinical competence. Here we provide a series of trainings specific to working with ethnic and cultural groups represented as clients in the mental health system. Those students that attend a specified number of training hours will receive a Mental Health Training Program Certificate upon completion of their placement. Our Interns and Trainees are also able to attend trainings offered by the other training agencies that are a part of the Intern Training Collaborative. This includes over 12 agencies that provide services for the Department as a part of our contract-operated programs.
